I wrote this proposal in 2019 for the University Faculty Council (UFC) at the University of Mary Washington, my alma mater. The sample broadly illustrates my ability to break down a big idea into actionable steps and write persuasively with a specific constituency in mind. In it, I call for an overhaul of the University's civic engagement programming and advocate for a new flagship initiative, a Day On Democracy, which requires changes to the academic calendar. The UFC largely approved the proposal the following year.

 

Beyond Mary Washington, this proposal laid the foundation for a surge of student activism on college campuses regarding class cancellation on Election Day, leading to successful campaigns at Stanford University and the University of Virginia among others.
